State of the Union and Response.

The One can do both!

And the President shows the common flaw of those that are enthralled by their own hype.

Obama hates being ridiculed.

At 48:45 on the cspan feed, Republicans laugh when he says the freeze will start next year. Obama pauses, clinches his jaw, and adds the off-script line “that’s how budgeting works.” Then Democrats laugh back at the Republicans and applaud.

If you saw the fox feed, it was on the tight shot when he said it. I remember being struck at how angry his face looked, much like it did after Joe Wilson’s comment last year.

That’s his greatest weakness. Republicans should just start laughing at him and making jokes.

Not Good

The chilling effect of political correctness.

You said the Wilders Trial reminds you of justice in your country of origin, Iran. Is that not somewhat exaggerated?

“The Netherlands, of course, is not comparable with Iran, but it's about perception. If you cannot say that Islam is a backward religion and that Mohammed is a criminal, then you are living in an Islamic country, my friend, because there also you cannot say such things. Here I'm free to say that Christ was a faggot* and Mary was a whore, but apparently I should stay off of Mohammed.”

(*Judging from the routine taunts of Muslim youth to ethnic European males on the streets of Amsterdam at night, the word "flikker" seems to be one bit of Dutch every immigrant picks up instantly.)

What the Wilders prosecution, the Danish cartoons, the Canadian "human rights" suits against Ezra Levant, Maclean's and me and many other ostensibly minor news stories all have in common is one consistent underlying principle - that Islamic law now applies to all.

If a Muslim doesn't want to show representations of Mohammed, good for him. But why can't Yale University Press?

If a Muslim doesn't want Winnie-the-Pooh's pal Piglet on his desk, go for it. But why can't a lapsed Anglican working for a British municipal council?

If a Muslim wants to fast during Ramadan, fast away. But why does a Brussels cop or a Scottish hospital worker have to ease up on the donuts?

And it's intentional. If you can't say things that offend people of a certian religion, guess what? You're living under the rules of their religion.

History

Here's Glenn Beck being amazingly restrained.

Whitewashing mass murder on an industrial scale, why to the Reds get a pass?
The Soviet Nazi alliance?
Have you ever heard of the Holodomor? Intentional famine in the Ukraine? Seven to ten million dead in one year.
Che, beyond the tshirt.
Or Mao and his 70 million.

Watch it all. Remember.

Hat tip Ed Driscoll

Remember when people try to justify massive social control, or excuse the actions of such people. Remember, so you'll see when people try to excuse or worse repeat these systems.

From the Earth to the Moon

The idea of using a giant gun to shoot things into space has been around for well over a hundred years.

There was some prototyping on the idea that showed some feasibility, before cancelation.

And the idea's back again. Even bigger.

Brown

Brown R-MA

This is the scope.

Scott Brown takes over a seat in the United States Senate that has been held by one family (including its seat-fillers) for just over 57 years, since John F. Kennedy was elected to it in 1952, before Brown was born. Massachusetts hadn’t elected a Republican senator since 1972. In the closest U.S. Senate race of the past decade, Democrat John Kerry won by 35 points. All 10 of its House members are Democrats, and about 90 percent of both legislative chambers. That’s a well-entrenched political establishment. And as so often happens with long-ruling parties, it has seen its share of corruption: Three consecutive House speakers have resigned under clouds. It’s no surprise that Massachusetts Democrats have finally encountered the kind of voter reaction that national Democrats did in 1994, and national Republicans in 2006 and 2008.

Given President Obama’s falling job approval, growing opposition to the Obama health care plan, the recent elections in Virginia and New Jersey, the fury in Nebraska over Ben Nelson’s wheeling and dealing, the growing recognition that libertarians are a major part of the decentralized “Tea Party” movement, and rising poll support for “smaller government,” the Brown victory is a flashing red light with a siren warning Democrats not to proceed with a health care bill that voters don’t like and a big-government agenda that Americans weren’t voting for in 2008.

Brown is no libertarian. But he campaigned against the Obama-Reid-Pelosi health care plan and against tax increases, so he will be part of the opposition to the current governing agenda.

Glen Reynolds has some thoughts and links including many people that aim to misbehave.

CHARLES AUSTIN EMAILS: “Nice win kid, don’t get cocky. Maybe now is a good time to remind everyone that there’s still a large struggle ahead.”

Yep. This is a beginning, not an ending. Party tonight. Get to work tomorrow.

Take Moe Lane

Also: [ahem] “See, I told you so.”

This message goes out to every vulnerable Democratic Congressman representing a Republican or even centrist district – and after tonight, who among you is not vulnerable? It is a simple message: we can do this the easy way, or we can do it the hard way. The easy way is, you suddenly decide that you have a burning desire to spend more time with your families. So you don’t run for re-election, you walk off stage technically undefeated, and you go join a lobbying firm. The hard way is, you do run for re-election, and we pry you out of your seats.

We want to do this the hard way. We will enjoy doing it.

That’s your only warning. And remember: nobody is going to be able to save you. If the President, the DSCC, the DCCC, the DNC, the SEIU, ACORN, and the netroots couldn’t manage a win in Massachusetts… what do you think that they can do for you?

So take a breather, enjoy yourself, and get ready, because 2010 is just starting.

About the url....

I've been meaning to do this... well since I started the blog.

The url is fivetensfourtens.blogspot.

So where does that come from?

Well there's an internet meme that takes pages from the exceptionally ridiculous DC Dictionary. Not sure if that's the exact title.

Four-tens comes from this:

Photobucket

Taking "That's as many as four tens. And that's terrible." one can equate Four-tens with something being terrible.

Five-tens is similar:

Photobucket

One can take that five-tens is too many.

So fivetensfourtens is too much of a terrible thing.

And that's four-tens.

As for the actual title... that was just pulled out of a hat. Maybe I should change it to match the url now.

"Buy a Gun"

Some Advice.

"Buy a gun," a member of a recently busted inner-city gang told The Buffalo News last week when asked what could be done to curtail homicides. "Hey, I'm just being honest. You asked."

Tall and good looking, the young man half smiled, shrugged and seemed to disappear into his oversized winter coat.

Twice the victim of gunfire — a fact a street cop confirmed — the young man said he views self-protection as the best means of avoiding death on the streets.

Criminals do understand risk versus reward. The higher the chance someone they go up against will be able to hurt or kill them, the more risky such robbery or assault is.

On the other hand, knowing that the person they'll go up against will be defenseless...
