ATTN Delaware Gunnies

Private Transfer Ban Passes the State House.

Sebastian has more info, on what would be banned and who to contact.

He also goes into some of the weird bits of the law.  Such as the time limits to the exceptions to the transfer bill.
Again, if you’re cohabiting with someone, say, in a gay relationship because you can’t get married, if you leave town for three weeks and leave your firearms in the care of your significant other, you’re making an unlawful transfer. Why the need to restrict the duration in section (B) to 24 hours? If I invite someone on my land to shoot, and loan him a gun for the weekend trip, should I be charged with a misdemeanor?

He also puts up some other points.

For people that don't live in Delaware you can still contact your Fed Senators.   As bad as this Delaware bill is, the Fed one is worse (no exceptions for people with a CCW and no 2 week loaning for example).  Also the Delaware law is a misdemeanor, not a felony like the feds want.

Joe Donelly takes Bloomberg's Bucks

It certainly seems that way if you read this MAIG press release.

A couple notes from that: he decided to sell us out in a California newspaper.  And the Sacramento Bee literally acts as a distributor for Bloomberg's press releases.  Look at the byline.

All Hoosiers reading this should drop the Senator a line to express your displeasure at the Senator deciding to take walking orders from NYC's Nanny.

You can also call at 317-226-5555

I called and found something interesting.  The Staffer at the other end of the line denied the report, and didn't have talking points on the issue.  Note the press release is a day old.

So..    either Donelly's treating his phone-staff like mushrooms,  his phone staff has been ordered to deny the press release, or MAIG jumped the gun.

This gives a window to get in contact with them to ask why Donnelly cares more about New York's Gracie Mansion, than than voters in Indiana.  And why he wants to make it a felony for people go go out hunting and borrow a friend's gun.

Update:

In speaking with the previous post,  mention Bloomberg when you call. The whole " By embracing Bloomberg, Senator Donnelly has proven that he cares more about New York City's nannying plutocratic mayor than law-abiding Hoosiers."   And go with reminding Donnelly about his predecessor.

Getting into their heads: Wayne LaPierre Edition.

First take this overwrought article:  Can Anyone Beat the NRA?

In it Roger Simon  (no relation to PJM's Roger L Simon) cries about the power of the Mean Old NRA. And how the gun grabbers might only get their Universal Registration but at the cost of "privacy provisions to keep the press and public from knowing the names of gun owners."

Now don't get complacent since the "Great Gun Control Comeback" is built into the end of the piece.  The answer to the title question should be obvious.  Obama and Biden need to save the US from the NRA.

Which is why you need to keep contacting your Senators.  As we can wear them down.  And time is on our side, but only if we keep the pressure up.

Take this article: "Maybe Washington waited too long to push gun control"  (Note the title change, and the whole Obama's not a part of "Washington" and theme of Obama needs to ride to the rescue, again)

Oh as a bonus see the praise for how the Patriot Act was passed.

And there's no slippery slope:  "Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy said that after the next mass shooting incident, members of Congress will be forced to explain why they did not act."

Related there's this piece where someone wonders if Bloomberg really is such a good standard bearer for Gun Control.

Now here's where I'll have to give it to Wayne LaPierre.

From the third article:

"Bloomberg "can’t spend enough of his $27 billion to try to impose his will on the American public,” LaPierre said on NBC’s Meet the Press. “They don’t want him in their restaurants, they don’t want him in their homes, they don’t want him telling what food to eat. They sure don’t want him telling what self-defense firearms to own. He can’t buy America.”
Fresh off a court setback in his controversial ban on large soda drinks in New York City, a move that has been mocked by conservatives, a bruised Bloomberg might not be the best person to carry the mantel for gun-control advocates. The blunt-spoken billionaire mayor may be popular in Washington and New York, but that popularity might not extend to other areas of the country."

And from the first article:

But to LaPierre “calm and reasonable” is the same as “weak.” Bloomberg “can’t spend enough of his $27 billion to try to impose his will on the American public,” LaPierre sneered on “Meet the Press” on Sunday. “They don’t want him telling them what food to eat; they sure don’t want him telling them what self-defense firearms to own. And he can’t buy America!”
All anyone really has to buy, however, is Congress. LaPierre knows how to intimidate senators.

Is some great copy. It's popped up in a lot of articles, notably ones written by gun grabbers.

Even people like the linked Mr. Simon, who call him a vampire responsible for the "slaughter of thousands of innocent men, women and children in this country" use that quote of Wayne's.

It shows that Bloomberg being a plutocratic controlling nanny is a very strong meme.

It also shows that Roger Simon is a disturbing ghoul who is disappointed that the blood of children couldn't be better exploited.

"Does all this seem like somewhat of a letdown after the terrible tragedy at Newtown? Weren’t we expecting more from our lawmakers?"

Classy.

And really why would anyone want to wait before signing onto gun control?

Well.. turns out laws past in haste end up being very stupid:

“The governor thought the limit on the size of [gun] magazines would only apply to assault-style rifles, not to handguns,’’ said the source.
“That’s why there’s the big problem now with handguns, among other things in the statute.’’
The legal sale of virtually all semiautomatic handguns will soon be impossible because Cuomo’s law limits the size of bullet-holding magazines to seven shots, virtually none of which are manufactured for sale.
“Much of what’s in the law was drafted by people connected to Mayor Bloomberg and the Brady Center, not by the governor’s staff,” the source said. “That’s why there are so many problems with it.''

Geee... maybe you shouldn't have suspended the legislative waiting period Governor?
Maybe you should have read the damn bill before you signed it?

Nah.

But gotta love his proposed "solution".    You can own ten round magazines but you can't load them beyond seven rounds.  Well you might be allowed to if you're at the range.

Get that?  In a state where you need a CCW to even *own* a handgun he wants to make it so you can have more firepower when training or entertaining yourself, but not if you have to defend your life.

And that doesn't get into the question of enforcement.  Or why there's a limit on how many rounds a mag "could" hold if he merely wants to ban how many you "can" put in it.

Naturally, criminals will fall into line with this law.

They haven't given up on Gun Control

Obama's telling congress to finish up his gun control dreams...   despite them being in recess... and despite Reid saying he'll put a gun control bill up when the Senate comes back.

And Obama's doing what he loves the most,  campaigning and lecturing middle america.

Don't think that Gun Control is over or even that the AWB is dead.  Because they're not acting like it.

Thoughts so Deep the Squeak.

There Erin, you're not the only one that panics when coming up with a good title.

You may have heard already. I just heard myself through a couple of friends, but blogger Bonnie of Squeaky Wheel Seeks Grease is in a spot of medical trouble.

If you can, help.  We've done this dance before. As Erin says:

A year ago, I was deeply honored by you folks when you generously donated so that I could purchase my carry pistol. This past November, we gunnies came through for Tamara when she was diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma, and wefully funded her procedure. I know that not only will you good folks fund her treatment, you will help her afford that nasty $800 uber-bloodtest for Lyme and whatever else she needs.
And looking at the page so far we're showing we can.

There's a lot of shit in the world.  And often it feels like we're pissing on a forest fire.

But you know what?  There are things we can do, and we can still make a difference,  even as we tumble down.

ATTN Minnesota Gunnies

Things are moving in Minnesota.

It looks like more of the Private Sale ban, and criminalizing temporary possession
Now, as we well know by now, they might claim the issue is background checks, but that’s not the case at all. It’s really about changing the definition of transfer in an attempt to make gun ownership legally risky. Colorado’s bill is very similar to the federal bill. You can find the Senate bill here. I note this bill also redefines transfer to include temporary possession as well, and what’s even more pathetic is they failed to exempt spouses, and this time, you can’t leave home for even a day without affecting a transfer.

So you'll want to contact, especially if you live in  Minnesota

Indy 1500 adds a pleasant addition.

Go to Tam's  Gun Show Post Mortem to see something the Indy 1500 added to their gun show.

Yes, it's an unloading barrel.

As Tam says:

Thank you, Indy 1500! If you're going to mandate that I coonfinger my loaded heater in the name of safety, good manners would dictate that you provide me a safe backstop against which to do so. Thank you, thank you!

If only more places that mandate "clear your guns before entering" did that.  It really is basic manners,  if you mandate that people have to do X before they come into your establishment,  provide a way for them to safely do X.

Note that the majority of Gun Free Zones do not have any sort of lockers or security, real security, for their little clubhouses.

ATTN Illinois Gunnies: MUST Call

In the Illinois State House a magazine ban (ten rounds, NO grandfathering) was narrowly defeated 57-59.

They're trying for another run to get it pushed through.

Light up the phones.

Contact your Senators on S374 The Private Sale Ban.

Sebastian has details.

Here's some highlights:

If you left town for more than 7 days, and left your gay partner, or unrelated roommate at home with the guns, you’d be committing a felony. This should be called the “denying gun rights to gays act.” Remember that the federal government does not recognize gay marriage, even if you’re state does, thanks to DOMA. 5 years in prison.

It would be illegal to lend a gun to a friend to take shooting [or hunting]. That would be a transfer. 5 years in federal prison.

Enacts defacto universal gun registration, because of record keeping requirements.

Oh and heaven help you if your loose a gun on a hunting trip or your house gets broken into while you're on vacation.  That violates the 24 hour reporting rule and you'll go to prison.

As Sebastian notes:

This bill has nothing to do with ensuring people who are getting guns are law-abiding, and everything to do with getting backdoor registration, and creating a patchwork of rules and laws that will land anyone who uses guns, and isn’t a lawyer, in federal prison for a long time. Lots of otherwise law-abiding people are going to federal prison if this ends up passing, and I’m convinced that’s the whole idea.

Call and write your Senators.  Tell them to Vote No.

Essay of the Day: A Girl on Friendship and being able to say: Scew 'em

Just go read A Girl and Her Gun's latest. She talks about the value of friendship and the importance of those that you can count on. She says it far better than I could.  Go Read.

And she says it about someone else you may know Erin Palette. Erin's had some bad days lately and is dealing with a birthday today.

True friends are rare, but that makes them worth it.  And the rest?  Screw 'em.

Happy Birthday Erin. And yes you are 10mm!

You've been a help with me as well.  Sure the universe may just end in heat death but that doesn't mean we can't do what we can with what we have.

And speaking of comments Tam and  Linoge might appreciate some.  Even if for the latter is to help for his veteran's fundraiser.

ATTN: Colorado Gunnies.

In good news it looks like the Pro-Rape Campus Carry Ban bill has been pulled.

Publicola has notes on what you can do.  Even if you're not a resident.

Edit:  Here's an update:  Campus Carry Ban is dead.  Assault Weapons Ban Dead.  But the Magazine Ban and the Private Sale ban are through and will have a final State Senate vote on Monday.

As MikeJ says: "Still have the weekend to email and call."

And as Sebastian says:
UPDATE: Mag ban passes 18-17, as Dave Kopel mentions, “Obama and Bloomberg rule the Colorado Legislature.” The Democrats must be punished in Colorado. Severely. I will be following the 2014 races there closely. Any loss of freedom anywhere diminishes us all.
Hickenlooper is also up, and won last time because the Republican Party was in shambles. He can’t count on that in 2014. It’s time for Coloradans to take their legislature back from the interlopers in DC and New York.

Shows that Bloomberg and Obama will push and win by the slimmest of margins, on a party line vote and it'll be enough for them. There has to be electoral consequences.   Otherwise these politicians will do this all over again.

Colorado Democrats: Now telling rape survivors directly that they're too dumb to carry guns.

Colorado Democrats really don't think much of women.  As this keeps happening, again and again.

So now the Democrats are saying that it's "statistics"  that show that women shouldn't carry guns do defend themselelves.

Well at least they're not saying it's "science".

Video from Allahpundit on Hotair who notes:

When you boil down Hudak’s “statistical” argument, what she’s really saying is that guns are so dangerous that society’s better off leaving women unarmed and tolerating a certain amount of rape than letting them arm up and risking extra gun thefts and shootings. Note to House Democrats: I encourage you to run on that message in 2014 as part of your big “yay, gun control” platform. Suggested slogan: “You’re safer when you’re defenseless.”

On Monsters.

Sebastian pointed something out that was key on Friday.

Do our opponents still want to continue to operate under the delusion they are fighting the evil gun industry and some faceless “gun lobby” rather than millions of their fellow Americans? Do they still want to suggest we’re all the stereotype of the OFWG? Want to continue to pretend all this is manufactured when most of these people are carrying homemade signs?

If yes, I understand. The illusion is important to you. Because the alternative is that you want to take something very important away from millions of people who care deeply and passionately about it, and that, well, kind of makes you a monster, doesn’t it?
Indeed.

And more on that subject.

Midway is one of NRA’s largest, if not the largest corporate donors, but it’s all done voluntarily by the customers… the one million customers. Like I said, the gun control proponents go through great lengths to convince themselves they aren’t battling millions of real people, but that would make them kind of awful, wouldn’t it?

It’s hard for me to think of any activity or past time people engage in that I find horrible enough that I think it ought to be taken away from them. Even though I will admit I like being able to go out without having to deal with cigarette smoke, as a general principle of freedom I remain opposed to public smoking bans. That’s about the closest thing I can think of. It’s hard to think of anything else that doesn’t involve a tragedy of the commons issue. I guess I just don’t have any Carrie Nation type moral crusading tendencies. I have enough going on managing my own life. I definitely don’t have the time to manage anyone else’s.

This is why we need to be engaged.  We need to reach out, not just to our politicians (you are contacting them right, right?).  But also to friends, family, neighbors, coworkers.

Gun control succeeds in ignorance.    Consider that an Assault Weapons Ban is ridiculous only if you know what it actually means.
